Monthly Roaming Conservation Work Parties
Monthly Roaming Conservation Work Parties
Our colleagues in Basingstoke Council community and ops. teams are inviting any members of Natural Basingstoke groups who are interested to join them on Tuesday work parties – currently 2nd Tuesday of the month.
The first ‘roaming work party’ will be on Tues 11th Sept starting at 9.30am and on site until about 3.30pm. This will be at the extensions to the Popley Ponds site, meeting at the entrance to the Ponds site in Tobago Close, Popley RG24 9PX ( off Carpenters Way).
The team will be concentrating mainly on scrub clearance. You are welcome to come along for any part of this – if you can only spare a couple of hours in the morning or afternoon, that’s fine! Hopefully it will be a chance for people to see some new sites, meet others from different local groups and enjoy the practical work without any of the hassle of organising!
Borough team leader will bring tools/PPE/brew kit etc, but please feel free to bring your own gloves/hand tools if you prefer. Bring a drink and packed lunch if staying for the day, wear your usual old clothes suitable for working in and strong, sturdy boots. There is a Tesco Express close by if anyone wants to buy anything on the day. There are no toilets on site, but plenty of thicket!
For those that can’t walk there or don’t drive, bus number 6 goes from Winklebury, through South View into town, onto Oakridge and then to Popley, stopping on Carpenters Down just north of Tobago Close.
Team leader will be there come rain or shine, but the more the merrier! Contact mobile in case people come later and can’t find us: 07769904142. You should see the BDBC van to know you’re in the right place!
Details of future roaming sessions will be posted here.
