The Environment Group of Sustainable Overton

The Environment Group in Sustainable Overton, working with Overton Biodiversity Society, curate the Orchard at Overton Hill and work in conjunction with the borough Ranger Team in managing the green spaces of Overton Hill Park.

Overton Hill’s open green space runs through the centre of a housing development established in 2006. The site starts at Overton’s Community Orchard and runs up through the development via a public foot path, to the upper meadows which are a rich and diverse area for wildlife and flora. Overton Hill forms part of a network of green spaces throughout the Parish, each with its own unique habitat and form part of Overton’s green space trails.

Our key aims are to promote growth of natural habitat to support biodiversity in the village, provide information and education and create community led projects. We undertake coppicing, thicket thinning, planting as well as maintaining species records.

We meet on the last Saturday of each Month between October and March, with other activities carried out throughout the year. Typically meeting at Overton Community Orchard, London Road Overton RG25 3NP.

Our volunteer group is made up of a diverse cross section of the community. It’s a great way for our volunteers with a shared passion to make a difference in their own community and also make new friends!.
