Volunteering opportunities

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer to help nature locally, whether you’d like to ‘get your hands dirty’ with practical conservation, fancy having a go at species surveying, are interested in supporting our educational events, or would prefer a more ‘desk-based’ role such as helping with social media or website management. A selection of roles are described below.

Don’t see a role that suits you? Please get in touch with us, let us know your skills/ how you think you could help and we’ll see if we have anything suitable.

Conservation Volunteers

Conservation volunteers work at locations all around the Basingstoke area, on land owned by the Council or other organisations such as Hampshire Cultural Trust. They help to manage the natural environment, tasks might include coppicing trees, planting wildflower seeds or pond clearance. No special skills are needed, all necessary training and equipment are provided.

Nature conservation is undertaken by volunteer groups. More details of the groups currently operating in the area, including where they work, when they meet, and how to get in touch with them, can be found on the Conservation Groups Page: https://naturalbasingstoke.org.uk/conservation-groups-sites.

Volunteer Ecologists

Volunteer Ecologists assist the council’s Ranger Services and Biodiversity Team, in partnership with Natural Basingstoke, undertaking wildlife surveying and recording for priority species and habitats across local green spaces.

For details of this role and how to apply please download the Job Spec below.

Events Management

Natural Basingstoke attends local events throughout the spring and summer, encouraging residents to join our volunteer groups or take personal action for nature and providing educational opportunities for local children.

If you enjoy interacting with the public, are creative or have good natural history knowledge, this opportunity could suit you. To apply please email admin@naturalbasingsoke.org.uk and let us know your interests and experience.

Important Note – All volunteers must be over 18 years old. Under 18’s may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
